From the Bay to Your Home.

Along the shores of Virginia’s Northern Neck, the Chesapeake Bay has shaped generations of families, traditions, and livelihoods. Oyster shells, once part of the Bay’s thriving waters, carry the quiet beauty of that history.

At Whayback Oyster Co., each shell is carefully cleaned, finished, and transformed by hand into a piece meant to be enjoyed long after its time in the water. No two are exactly alike, and that natural individuality is part of their charm.

What begins in the Chesapeake becomes something new. A small keepsake. A conversation piece. A reminder of the Bay and the coastal heritage that continues to shape Virginia today.

Giving Back to the Bay

Because every oyster shell has a story that begins on the water.

The Chesapeake Bay is more than beautiful scenery. It is a working waterway that has supported Virginia families for generations. The watermen of the Bay carry forward traditions that have shaped coastal communities for centuries.

At Whayback Oyster Co., we believe those traditions are worth protecting. A portion of every purchase supports the work of the Virginia Watermen’s Association, an organization dedicated to advocating for Virginia’s watermen, preserving the seafood industry, and ensuring the future of working waterfront communities across the Commonwealth.

Every shell we transform begins its story in the Chesapeake. Supporting the people who make their living on these waters is our way of giving back to the Bay that inspires everything we create.

Meet the Maker

Whayback Oyster Co. began with a love for the Chesapeake Bay and the stories that come from living close to the water.

My husband, Jay Whay, grew up in Virginia’s Northern Neck, where his family’s roots stretch back to the early days of the Jamestown settlement. For generations, the Northern Neck has been home to his family, a place where life has long been shaped by the Chesapeake Bay and the traditions of the watermen who work its waters.

My story took a slightly different route. I grew up as an Army kid, moving around the country and the world with my family. Home was wherever the Army sent us. In 2004, I moved to Virginia and quickly realized this place was something special. What started as another stop along the journey became the place I chose to stay, and the place I now proudly call home.

Whayback Oyster Co. brings those two stories together. Each oyster shell begins in the Chesapeake Bay and is thoughtfully cleaned, finished, and transformed by hand into something meant to be enjoyed long after its time in the water.

And while we take pride in the craftsmanship, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. After all, it’s hard to get too fancy when your business starts with a muddy oyster shell.
